5 Lessons I Learned in 2018

I will probably say this every single year for the rest of my life… but 2018… thank you!

You were the best year yet! Here’s a few key takeaways.

1) I learned that not every day is going to be a great day. If you follow me on social media, you know that I typically come in HOT with energy. I’m always positive. Sometimes I even stand in front of the mirror and yell. “Let’s gooooo! Have a day!”

Disclaimer: When I say sometimes I mean most days.

I truly do believe each day has the potential to be the best day of my life.

But that doesn’t mean that every day is GOING to be the best day of my life.

Being the positive person that I am, I will take something positive away from every day.

But some days just suck. That’s a plain and simple fact. Some days feel like you get nothing done.

And every single thing goes wrong. And at best it’s a 3 out of 10 type of day.

But guess what? That’s ok. Life is full of ups and downs. Embrace it. Learn from it. And wake up the next morning knowing that you actually do have another chance to have the best day of your life.

2) I learned to stop comparing myself to others.

Comparison is the thief of all joy.

You could be having the best day of the year and then open Instagram or turn on the TV and get your happiness stolen from you in an instant. Far too often we judge our own success in comparison to others. That person who got a promotion who didn’t work as hard as you. Or the teammate who signed a contract when you KNOW you’re better than him. Or that one girl who never goes to the gym but works out once and has a “perfect” body.

Stay true to yourself. It’s your journey. If you want to compare to anyone… compare to yourself!

Be a better YOU than you were yesterday.

3) I learned who I should keep in my circle.

Have you ever noticed people that jump into your life when things are going well?

But then you realize you haven’t heard from them in years? Yea, me too. Be careful of those people. There are certain individuals that will only give you the time of day when they want something from you. Or when they think you can help them. Or when they want to be affiliated with success.

Example: how many times have you seen this one…

Instagram Caption: “My day 1 homie! I told people he would make it! #bro4life

But wait a second. What about the times when you were struggling. And grinding. And you couldn’t help them? Or you didn’t make any money? Where was that Instagram post and hashtag then? Where were the phone calls then?

Exactly. No where to be found.

Take notes of the people who are actively present when you are at your lowest.

Those are your true “day 1’s.”

4) I learned how abundantly blessed I am.

This morning I woke up!

Last night I got to sleep on a friends couch. AND I had a roof over my head.

I currently have clothes on my back and I’m sipping on a coffee.

I have a family that loves me and supports me in everything I do.

…(Even my crazy & sporadic trips across the world)

I don’t have designer jeans or special edition Yeezy’s.

But I do have pants to wear and shoes on my feet.

There is nothing wrong with nice things. Expensive cars. Or even big houses. To be honest, I have blueprints of the my future vacation home on the beach in Malibu that I will visit with my wife and kids one day!

But its easy forget the everyday blessings. The simple things. Being wealthy with family friends and love is far greater than being wealthy with a room full of stuff.

Remember, tombstone will not list how much money you had in your bank account.

Pay attention to the important blessings in your life. Because there is always someone out there that would do anything to have the things that you are blessed with.

5) I learned that there is SO much more to learn!

The world is full of possibilities. No matter how well we think we understand something, there is always more data, another theory or a new podcast that can shift our mindset.

We are now entering 2019. The resources that are provided to us are unbelievably abundant.

So take advantage of it!

Learn what you think will make you happy.

Learn what might make the world a better place.

Maybe even learn a new way to learn 😉

I wish everyone a safe and happy New Year.

I hope 2019 brings you more than you can ever imagine!

And a life full of happiness, health, wealth and joy.
