#LinkedInSports Day 2️⃣5️⃣: Share an interesting statistic about athletes or the sports industry.
Here's a statistic for you.
If you are a boy that participates in high school basketball in the United States, you have a .00832% chance of being selected in the NBA Draft.
Of course there are many assumed variables that go into that calculation, but it's a powerful statistic.
So powerful that I include it in every single presentation I give.
It doesn't matter if I'm speaking to middle schoolers or college athletes, the message remains the same. The idea of getting paid to play a sport at the highest level is far more difficult than social media makes it seem.
If we take the NBA out of it, and just speak about Division 1 scholarships, the stats are still powerful.
If you are a boy that participates in high school basketball in the United States, you have a 1.018% chance of getting a Division 1 college basketball scholarship.
The data below is from the most recently published report on NCAA participation.
I don't share this information to crush dreams.
I share it because it needs to be heard.
I share it to motivate student athletes.
If you really want to get to the top, you have to be willing to do things differently than everyone else.
