Monthly Digest 008

This is a monthly recap of resources that have helped me become the best version of me!

A QUOTE I love --

"You will find success when you can get up in the morning and go to bed at night, and in between do exactly what you want to do."

A BOOK I finished -- GRIT: The Power of Passion and Perseverance by Angela Duckworth // Grit is defined by Angela as the combination of passion and perseverance applied to long term goals. Talent can get you started and even take you pretty far. Luck can put you in the right position at the right time. But the people with the most grit are hard to stop!

A PODCAST I listened to -- Evolution of a Little Liar (Overheard on National Geographic) // Is it bad to lie? Your first reaction was probably similar to mine. "Of course!" But is it really? Are all lies bad? What if the lie was told to avoid an unjust punishment? What if the lie was told to make someone else feel better? A study done last year showed that every person tells an average of 1.65 lies per day. Maybe the right type of lie is just a good social skill! (quick 18 minute listen)

A PLACE I RECENTLY TRAVELED to --

Location --> Marina del Rey, California

Reason --> A friends' wedding! (and to visit LA because I miss the west coast)

Fun Fact --> MDR is the largest man made marina in North America.

A few ARTICLES you should read --

Inside The Life of NBA Super Agent Rich Paul // Most people reading this probably know that I am a NBPA certified agent. As someone who hopes to have a client in the NBA in the (very) near future, I always look for other agents to learn from. To me, Rich Paul is someone I strive to be like. Despite the criticism from guys like Steven A. Smith and Bill Simmons, Rich doesn't take shit from anyone and has made his stamp as a leader in this industry. He exemplifies the "rags to riches" story as humbly as someone ever has. Without forgetting where he came from. Dig into some of his 'out of the box' thinking!

Salaries Skyrocket // Professional athletes are on a whole new level these days. In addition to exponentially growing contract values, additional business opportunities off the court are endless. So who wouldn't want to find a way to get involved with some of the action? Big banks, independent money managers and boutique firms are now on the hunt! If used properly, a well educated financial team member could be instrumental in helping you invest and save properly. But as an agent, I'm obligated to say, be careful who you let in...

A SHOW I am currently watching --

Billions on Showtime // The sports industry doesn't stray too far from the world of finance in regards to how deals are made. Everyone tries to use their smarts, power and influence to outmaneuver each other. This show is a fast paced drama about power politics in NYC between a hedge fund and a US Attorney.

Like anything in life, I will continuously make changes and improvements to this newsletter! That will all depend on feedback I get from YOU! The purpose is to be able to share resources that bring you value. Hit me with feedback on any of the following:

  • Which resource above is your favorite?

  • What do you want more or less of?

  • How can I improve?

Send me a tweet (@Kevin_Tarca), shoot me a DM (@kevintarca) or simply respond to this email!

Have a wonderful month!
