This is a monthly recap of resources that have helped me become the best version of me!
A QUOTE I love --
"How hard are you working when the spotlight turns into an audience of none?"
A BOOK I finished --
The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor // Happiness is not just a mood, it's a work ethic. There are several big takeaways from this book, but the main one is revisiting a broken assumption. The assumption that we become happier only when we are successful is entirely incorrect. In fact, that statement is completely backwards.
A PODCAST I listened to --
The Week COVID-19 Changed Everything // Bill Simmons and one of my favorite authors, Malcolm Gladwell, discussed the effects that coronavirus is going to have on sports and the economy in general. They discussed what other countries were doing to prevent it back in January, poor decisions made by large event coordinators, and force majeur contracts.
A PLACE I have traveled to --
Where: Jerusalem, Israel
--> pictures and words do not do this trip justice! (spring 2017)
--> sacred to three major religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam
--> must see: Dome of the Rock, Western Wall, street markets!
A few ARTICLES I enjoyed --
Preserving Optionality // Many people tell us to specialize in one thing. And it's far too common to invest all our time in that one specific skill. But why aren't more people talking about keeping an open mind? It's fine to have a strategy and a plan. But the more we keep our options open, the better we will be able to adapt to uncertainty (exhibit A = pandemic).
Your Boats Are Burning! // When you have a safety net in life, it's not necessary for you to give your full effort. But when your options are narrowed down for you, it leaves you with two choices. Great success. Or dire failure! Perfectly written by my great friend and college teammate, Sean Light. You're definitely going to want to check out more of his work.
Like anything in life, I will continuously make changes and improvements to this newsletter! That will all depend on feedback I get from YOU! The purpose is to be able to share resources that bring you value. Hit me with feedback on any of the following:
Which resource above is your favorite?
What do you want more or less of?
How can I improve?
Send me a tweet (@Kevin_Tarca), shoot me a DM (@kevintarca) or simply respond to this email!
Have a wonderful month!
